Special Training
After med students complete 4 years of med school, they must complete an average of 6 years in neurosurgical residency training. They are taught basic clinical skills. The requirement is at least 42 months of core clinical neurosurgery.

Duties
Neurosurgeons most often perform procedures involving the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. They operate on these body parts in hopes of helping with pain, removing tumors, or reverse a disease that is caused by brain nerves. Besides operating, surgeons elucidate results of diagnostic tests including CT scans and PET scans to inform the patients on their diagnosis.

Neurosurgery, or ay kind of surgery for that matter, is a grueling job that requires precision and stamina because a surgery is not always perfect and there are times when fatal mistakes are made so taking ownership is important. Hours are always long and it is never known how long a surgery lasts so being prepared to handle what is coming their way is also crucial.
